State Highway 146 in Baytown was closed for several hours Wednesday after a driver crossed the median, setting off a chain-reaction wreck that left 1 dead. Three others were injured.
Police said the driver was traveling northbound shortly before noon when he drove his burgundy car into the median without warning. His car was struck by a white SUV, with a woman driving and a 7-old-child in the back seat, and a third vehicle was also clipped.
The burgundy car burst into flames, and the man died at the scene after being pulled from it. The female driver and her child were reportedly flown to an area hospital, and the third driver was taken by ambulance, treated and released.
The cause of the accident was still under investigation.
